Ultrasound in Multiple Pregnancies

The number of multiple pregnancies is increasing over the last couple of years mainly due to increasing maternal age and assisted reproduction. These pregnancies are at higher risk for complications and poor outcomes compared to singleton pregnancies, for example premature labor and birth, gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, placenta abruption, fetal growth restriction, or even fetal death. Chorionicity of the pregnancy determines different risk levels and surveillance. Monochorionic pregnancies can develop severe complications like twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) and twin anemia-polycythemia sequence (TAPS).
